Arendt Arends, of Montevideo, died Sunday, July 11, 2004 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 89.
Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald McKee officiating. Interment will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Wednesday with the family from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Arendt Arends was born on January 1, 1915 in Steen, MN to Fritz and Frances (DeWitt ) Arends. At a young age he moved with his family to the Maynard, MN area, where he grew up and attended rural schools. On February 3, 1939 he was united in marriage to Ruth Evelyn Nelson. They farmed north of Montevideo until retiring. He has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past 2 years. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo and enjoyed gardening, playing cards, fishing, horses and his family.
He his survived by 3 sons: Dennis Arends and his wife Gloria , David Arends and his wife Lynette and Greg Arends, all of Montevideo; 4 daughters: Carol Paulson and her husband Douglas of Plymouth, MN; Barbara Holmgren and her husband Eugene of Morris, MN Sandy Maxwell and her husband Bill of Burnsville, MN and Kathy Isaacs and her husband Allan of Clarkfield, MN; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Alyce Arends of Maynard, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth in 1978; a great granddaughter, Meghan Paulson; 3 brothers: John, George and Fritz Arends and by 6 sisters: Ann and Bernadine Arends, Rachel Tammen, Flora Knopp, Helen Moore and Meta McCoy.
