Carl Brunkow, formerly of Montevideo, died on Monday, June 15, 1998 at the Clara City Nursing Home at the age of 89.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 19, 1998 at 10:30 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Paul Welander officiating. Burial will be in the Leenthrop Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening, with the family from 7 - 9 PM with a prayer service at 8 PM, all at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Carl Brunkow was born on September 28, 1908 in Chippewa Co., MN to Charles and Emma (Vergiutz) Brunkow. He attended rural school districts # 84 & 69 until the 8th grade, when he began to farm with his father. In the 1930's he moved to Wisconsin for 3 years working with his uncles and cousins before returning to the Clara City area and working for several farmers. On June 25, 1939 he was united in marriage to Mae Syde in Maynard, MN. They farmed in the Maynard area until moving to Lynd, MN in 1963, where they owned and operated a small gas station and he drove school bus.He worked with the ASCS office while he farmed in the Maynard area and did plumbing work with Ralph Bristle in Maynard and also in Lynd. After retiring in the late 1970's, they sold their home and station and moved to Montevideo. He has been a resident of the Clara City Nursing Home for the past 2 years. He was an active member of the Gideons for over 30 years, was active in the Maynard Baptist Church and was currently a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He served on the Maynard School Board, the Maynard Creamery Board, was active in the Montevideo Senior Citizens and served on the Community Education Board.
He is survived by a son - Clarence Kluver and his wife Helen of Sacred Heart, MN; 7 grandchildren - Jerry Kluver of New London, MN: Ron (and Wendy) Kluver of Danube, MN; Tom (and Jackie) Kluver of Arlington, MN; Becky (& Tim) Opdahl of Granite Falls, MN; Doug Kluver of New London, MN; Deb (and Brad) Burgeson of Granite Falls, MN; and Mike (and Shannon) Kluver of Hazel Run, MN; 13 great grandchildren - Catie, Emily, Kim, Liesl, Sam, Eric, Zach and Tyler Kluver; Tim, Livvy and Jill Opdahl; and Lee and Justen Burgeson; a brother-in-law - Carl Jaenisch of Clara City, MN as well as by numerous nieces and nephews,
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mae in 1997, three brothers, six sisters and a great grandson.
