Carol Johnson of Montevideo, MN died on Saturday, November 16th, 2024 at Home Front First in Montevideo, MN at the age of 73.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 8th from 1-4pm at the VFW in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Carol Irene Johnson was born in Moorhead, MN on December 24th, 1950 to Alfred and Edna (Brown) Johnson. Carol grew up around Moorhead and Detroit Lakes with her many siblings. She married James O’Sullivan Sr shortly after he arrived from Ireland, and they had two children: Miranda and James Jr.
Carol attended Detroit Lake Technical College and achieved two associate degrees; first, for a Small Business degree, and then for a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Carol and her family lived in Callaway, MN, with her continuing to reside there until moving to Montevideo, MN 14 years ago to be near her daughter and grandchildren.
Carol enjoyed collecting, gardening, fishing, cooking, and baking. The family recalled that Carol could look in the fridge and cupboards and put together amazing casseroles from any ingredients she found. She is described as eccentric, colorful, and crafty; she could always figure out how to tackle anything with limited resources, doing it joyfully and with style. Above all, Carol enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her lively, helping spirit will be dearly missed.
Carol is survived by her children: Miranda (Lonnie) O’Sullivan-Flickinger of Montevideo, MN, and James O’Sullivan of Detroit Lakes, MN; grandchildren: Vania, Patrick, and Christopher O'Sullivan, all from Oklahoma; Rory (Cassandra Waltz) LaMorie-Flickinger of Montevideo, MN, MacKenzie (Fletcher Christiansen) Flickinger of Bloomington, MN, and Kate (Rachele Smith) Flickinger of Appleton, MN; great-grandchildren: Nora, Charlee, Ben, Genevieve, Demi, Tyler; siblings: Arlette (Dick) Westland, Darlene (Jim) DeGroat, Audrey Boe, Roger (Sue) Johnson, all in the Detroit Lakes, MN area; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, and a great-granddaughter, Serenity.
