Dale Olsen, 72, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away at Sarasota Hospice House on December 26, 2024.
A memorial gathering and private graveside service will be held later in Montevideo, Minnesota; date yet to be determined.
Dale Dean Olsen was born on October 26, 1952 in Montevideo, Minnesota to James (Dugie) and Audrey (Fall) Olsen. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo. He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1971. He attended Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Jackson, Minnesota. He became a Master Plumber. He began his career with his father at Olsen Plumbing and Heating in Montevideo. On July 1, 1978, he married Sue Ann Yanacheak of Wilmar, Minnesota at Tripolis Lutheran Church in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. He and Susie eventually moved to Prior Lake and then to St. Peter, Minnesota, and Dale worked for the State of Minnesota and Department of Transportation.
Growing up, Dale loved spending time at the family’s cabin at Diamond Lake. He was a Boy Scout. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, water sports, spending time around lakes and the ocean, dancing, reading and playing cards. He and Susie made several trips to Florida, where Dale eventually retired.
Dale was a loving and kind man. He was generous with his skills and time. There was nothing he wouldn’t try or couldn’t do. He was always smiling and laughing. Dale had a huge heart, forgave easily, and never held a grudge.
Dale is survived by his son Chad Olsen; two granddaughters Alexis Olsen and Kaylinn Olsen; a brother J. Gary (Helen) Olsen of Montevideo; sisters JoAnn Grote of Montevideo and Sharon (Mark) Falvey of Burnsville; and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Sue Ann on May 30, 2003; and a brother Richard in 1961.
