David "Mike" Michael Speaks

David “Mike” Speaks, of Maynard, died on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 45.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 10:30 AM at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Montevideo with Rev. Beverly Crute officiating.  Interment will be in the Maynard Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6 - 8 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

David Michael “Mike” Speaks was born on December 17, 1958 in Phoenix, AZ to Henry and Kathy (Addison) Speaks.  He grew up in Phoenix before moving at the age of 13 to Merkel, TX where he graduated from High School in 1976.  He served in the US Navy from 1976-1980.  On November 24, 1979 he was united in marriage to Susan Hoof in San Diego, CA.  He continued to live in Merkel, TX until moving to the Montevideo area in 1986. He attended the Granite Area Vo-Tech as a machinist and had been working at J & D Construction in Montevideo since 2001.  He was a good mechanic and could put anything together and make it work.  He also enjoyed fishing and horseback riding.

He is survived by 3 children: Michael Speaks of Drumright, OK; Matthew Speaks of Knob Noster, MO and Jeremy Speaks of Drumright, OK; 2 grandchildren: Derik and Morgan Speaks; his mother, Kathy Speaks of Merkel, TX; a brother, Joe Speaks of Merkel, TX; a sister, Kim Gschwind living in Virginia; an aunt, Joyce Bullock of San Antonio, TX as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.
