Doris Ann Larson died on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at the age of 92 at her home at Brookside Senior Living in Montevideo.
Memorial services will be held Monday, July 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Pastor Donald S. McKee will officiate and burial will be in Bergen Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church on Monday.
She was born on April 18, 1934 in Maynard, Minnesota to Chester and Nina (Smith) Peterson. Doris was the oldest of two children. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gene, her parents, her brother, three grandchildren, and many other beloved extended family members.
She was baptized at Rosewood Methodist Church and confirmed at Saron Lutheran Church. She graduated from Granite Falls High School and then moved to Minneapolis where she secured her first job at Augsburg Publishing.
Doris married the love of her life, Gene Larson, on October 1, 1955. They had six children together: Nina, Ann, Peggy, Bruce, Karen and Mary. Her family always came first and she thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with each and every one of them. She especially loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the newest great-great granddaughter.
She had many jobs while raising their children and spent the last 25 years at Great Plains Natural Gas until she retired. In her retirement, Doris volunteered at Our Savior’s making hundreds of quilts and working funeral luncheons. She and Gene traveled around the Unites States, spending a lot of time in Desert Hot Springs, CA and Branson, Missouri. They often traveled with friends and one of mom’s favorite trips was to Norway with their life-long friends, Ordell and Ruby Olson. On every trip they stopped to see friends and family along the way.
Doris also loved spending time at their cabin on Lake Rachel. She and Gene loved swinging on the deck and watching all the activities. She often shared how blessed she was to have such a wonderful place to share with her family.
Doris loved to bake cakes, cookies and treats. She always had coffee, and treats in the freezer, for anyone who might stop by to visit.
