Doris Payne, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 81.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Leo Deitemeyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Bridget’s Cemetery in DeGraff, MN. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Doris Mae (Kratz) Payne was born on January 10, 1921 in Montevideo, MN to Ralph and Alma (Moehring) Kratz. She was baptized on January 23, 1921 and confirmed on March 25, 1934 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by her uncle, Rev. H. W. Moehring. She attended grade school in Dist #74 in Leenthrop Twp and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1938. On June 19, 1954 she was united in marriage to Alvin B. Payne in DeGraff. They resided on farms in Leenthrop and Grace Townships in Chippewa Co. Doris moved to an apartment in Meadowland Estates in Montevideo in April of 1995. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was active in Martha Circle and church quilting. She was a member of the Flying Farmers, Minnesota Valley Antique Power Association, Community Concert Association and was Treasurer of the Chippewa Co. Republicans.
She is survived by step-sons: Douglas Payne and his wife Marion of Edina, MN; Eugene Payne and his wife Katy of DeGraff, MN and Thomas Payne and his wife Harriet of DeGraff, MN; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a brother, Loran Kratz and his wife Margaret of Montevideo; sisters-in-law, Marcella Commerford of Benson, MN and Lou Payne of Willmar, MN as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alvin in 1988 and by a grandson.
