Elaine Audrey (Tufto) Skulborstad

Elaine Skulborstad, formerly Elaine Tufto of Dawson, MN, died at her home in Naples, FL on January 5, 2000 at the age of 70.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, January 10, 2000 at 12:00 Noon at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter with Rev. Steve Rheingans officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.  Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Elaine Audrey (Tufto) Skulborstad was born on October 26, 1929 in Sacred Heart, Mn to Alfred & Clara Tufto.  She was baptized at Opdal Lutheran Church and grew up in rural Sacred Heart until the family moved to Dawson, MN in 1938.  She attended rural School District #5 in Lac Qui Parle Co, was confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter and graduated from Dawson High School in 1947.  After completing her studies and graduating from St. Cloud State Teachers College, she taught English in the Slayton School System until 1950.  On August 13, 1950 she was united in marriage to Parnell J. Skulborstad of Madison, MN at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter.  They moved to Belvidere, IL, where she taught Jr. High School English full time until 1952, when their family started to grow.  She remained active with Belvidere schools, Zion Lutheran Church and a variety of local clubs and organizations until the family moved to Oak Brook, IL in 1966.  As a member of Christ Lutheran Church and a devoted wife and mother, she guided her family through the confirmation, high school, college and marriage years until moving to Florida in the early 1980's.  Although she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two years ago, she continued to pursue her passions in life which included her family, grandchildren, friends, travel, golf and  bridge with courage and dignity.  She was a member of Marco Lutheran Church in Marco Island, FL, Christ Lutheran Church in Clarendon Hills, IL, Ruth Lake Country Club in Hinsdale, IL and Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club in Naples, FL.

She is survived by her husband - Parnell of Naples, FL; sons - Dennis and his wife Eva of Geneva, IL; Jay and his wife Judy of Barrington, IL and Jon of Willow Springs, IL; seven grandchildren - Erik, Stephen, Kyrsten, Jayson, Sheila, Shannon and Janie Skulborstad;  two brothers - Donald Tufto and his wife Vel of Gahanna, OH and Dale Tufto and his wife Eloise of Dawson, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother - Clayton.
