Floyd Thompson, of the Big Bend, MN area, died on Monday, December 27, 1999 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 85.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 29, 1999 at 1:30 PM at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. Corey Fuhrman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 - 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Strand Funeral Service of Milan is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Floyd Wallace Thompson was born on December 13, 1914 in Swift Co., MN to Selmer and Cora (Olson) Thompson. He was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran church and attended rural schools. On October 2, 1943 he was united in marriage to Frances Torgeson at the Big Bend Parsonage. They lived near Watson for a short time before moving to a farm in Mandt Township, where they farmed until moving to Milan in 1981. After several months at the Madison Lutheran Home in Madison, MN in 1997, he has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. He was a lifelong member of Big Bend Lutheran Church and served on several church boards. He was a 4H leader for many years and was a member of the Farmers Union and NFO. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling and also enjoyed doing woodworking.
He is survived by his wife Frances of Montevideo; by children - Marie Risa of Granite Falls, MN; Dean Thompson and his wife Vonnie of Montevideo, MN; Jan Ahrndt and her husband Sheldon of Benson, MN; Nancy Burgess and her husband Greg of Montevideo, MN and Larry Thompson and his wife LaVonne of Monticello, MN; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister - Alvina Kleven of Milan, MN; a sister-in-law - Myrtle Thompson of Appleton, MN as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson - Michael Ahrndt; a brother - Leonard Thompson and a brother-in-law - Vernon Kleven.
