Gene Rodney Greseth of Dawson, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 6th with his partner Linda Roder by his side. He was 85 years old. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 16, at the Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church, rural Dawson, followed the graveside at 11:00 am. Hanson and Dahl Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Cemetery Fund.

Rod was born on September 16, 1940, to Thorsten and Alice (Femrite) Greseth. He was baptized and confirmed at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church and graduated from Dawson High School. He served in the Navy and attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis where he was licensed as a Master Electrician. He married Bonnie Jean Ward on June 15, 1963. Rod and Bonnie lived in Minneapolis and later Bloomington, where they welcomed two daughters, Stephanie Lynn and Jennifer Rae. In 1974, they returned to Lac Qui Parle County where they built a home near Lac Qui Parle village and raised their girls. Bonnie passed away on February 5, 1999.

Rod loved traveling and enjoyed meeting new people. In 2000, he found companionship with Linda (Olson) Roder and they began their adventure together. They traveled extensively throughout the Western US, connecting with friends new and old along the way. Rod was delighted to find himself a part of Linda’s extended family.

Rod was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles, and playing horseshoes. He was interested in conservation and in his later years he farmed near Boyd. When weather or circumstances kept him inside, he was a competitive pool player and loved to play cards. He was also community minded, serving on the Dawson Boyd School Board and as DFL County Chair in the 1980s.

Left to mourn his passing along with Linda are his brother Richard, sister Beverly Prosser; daughters Stephanie Finke and Jennifer Greseth (Brian Winczewski); Linda’s children Dion (Debra) Roder, Gary (Annette) Roder, Shellie (Jeremy) Abrego, and Michelle (Jason) Weidenbach; Grandchildren Rebekah (John) Lewis, Sarah Finke, Julia Finke, Ashley (Brandon) Fiecke, Taylor (Isaac Bergerud) Roder, Kirsten (Dalton Wendler) Roder, Logan (Robin) Abrego, Trenton (Tatyana Carisle) Abrego, Rya (Lucas) Ewing, Kayla Weidenbach, and Jenna (Mickey) McKechnie; 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
