Glen was born July 23, 1931 in California, Missouri to Karl and Mary Helen. He spent his youth in central Missouri.

He graduated from Cole Camp High School in 1948 and went on to attend the University of Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1952. That same year, Glen entered the United States Army, where he was assigned to the artillery and served his country in Korea until 1954 where he was a Forward Observer, notably at the battle of Pork Chop Hill. He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. He earned 4 medals for his service, with the Bronze Star Medal his most prestigious award.

In 1957, Glen married the love of his life, Jacqueline, in Kansas City, Missouri. Their marriage was a true partnership — built on humor, patience, and a steady affection — that continued through 68 years of marriage. After settling in Montevideo to raise their growing family, Glen began a 33-year career at First National Bank, where he was known for his genuine care for the people he served.

He believed deeply in giving back, and the City of Montevideo benefited from his leadership. He was active in Kiwanis International and the Montevideo Chamber of Commerce, and he gave his time and wisdom to boards and committees including MIDC, MCDC, MEDC, and the Southwest Initiative Foundation. Glen served because he loved Montevideo and wanted it to thrive.

Faith was also an important part of Glen’s life. He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church and later attended the United Methodist Church.

Glen loved sports — especially football and basketball — and the comfort of watching a good game on TV next to a roaring fire. He enjoyed playing tennis and racquetball, too. He and Jackie also shared a love for the arts, attending theater and orchestra concerts whenever they had the chance. Together, they traveled widely, visiting 48 states, seven Canadian provinces, and other destinations abroad. These trips, often planned around family time, created memories their children and grandchildren still cherish.

Those who knew Glen will remember him as kind, patient, and loyal. He didn’t need to be the loudest voice in the room; his presence alone made people feel supported. His life was defined not by grand gestures but by the everyday ways he showed up for others.

Glen is survived by his wife, Jackie, his children and their families: Dan and Lori and their children Karson (Brooklyn) and Nathan; Steve and Laura, and their children John (Katharine) and Preston (Melodee); Mary; Ruth (Richard Mann); and Carolyn (Frank Brady). He is also survived by one great-grandson, Dawson Glen, and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gene.
