James Edward Bartz, 72, of Benson, Minnesota died on Friday morning, March 13, 2026, at the CentraCare Hospital in Benson. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at East Zion Lutheran Church near Starbuck, Minnesota, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is assisting the family with the arrangements.
James Edward Bartz was born on October 28, 1953, in Starbuck, Minnesota, the son of Wilbert and Eleanor Clay Bartz. He grew up in the Starbuck area, and he was baptized and confirmed at East Zion Lutheran Church. He graduated from Starbuck High School and then he attended Alexandria Technical School. Throughout his life he lived in Starbuck, Glenwood, Villard, and Benson. Jim worked as a welder at Tyler/ Case in Benson for several years and retired in 2013.
Jim enjoyed woodworking, cooking, and gardening. He liked to go fishing, camping up at the lake, and delighted in the companionship of his dogs. Jim loved to be surrounded by his family.
Jim is survived by his children Richard Bartz of De Graff, Vanessa (Vance) Pryne of Benson, April Bartz of Alexandria, and Christopher Bartz of the Twin Cities; his grandchildren Damian Bartz, Christian Bartz, McKenzie Strickler, Vance Pryne jr., Noah Bartz, and Marissa Bartz; his siblings Kathleen (Allan) Kuseske of Villard, Jack (Patty) Bartz of Glenwood, Pete (Kim) Bartz of Casper, Wyoming, Phillip (Yvonne) Bartz of North Dakota, and Karen Johnson of Litchfield; and several other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Wilbert and Eleanor, his son Eric Bartz, a grandson Baby Michael Pryne and a sister Loretta Bartz. Blessed be his memory.
