Joseph Haugerud, of Montevideo, died on Friday, February 20, 2004 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 82.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday February 25, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Kurt Hoover officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Joseph Lester Haugerud was born on March 14, 1921 in West Bank Township, of Swift County, MN to Ole and Gertrude (Hanson) Haugerud. He was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church and attended rural and Appleton Schools. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.. On December 20, 1966 he was united in marriage to Irene Pearson Minsaas at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. He worked for many years as a lineman and foreman for NSP. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and a life member of the V.F.W. and of the American Legion. He enjoyed family, fishing, hunting and reminiscing about his time in the military.
He is survived by a step-son, Ronald Minsaas and his wife Rita of Minneapolis, MN; two step- grandsons: Michael and Brant Minsaas; two sisters: Clara Anderson of Montevideo, MN and Lillian Anderson of Shawnee, OK; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene in 1994; a stepson, Gerald Minsaas; four brothers: James, Melvin and Oliver Haugerud and Andrew in infancy; and three sisters: Anna Geary, Ruth Bakke and Othelia Bernard.
