Julie Rae (Emery) Peterson of Montevideo passed away June 27, 2025 at Saint Cloud hospital at the age of 76 surrounded by her family. Julie was born in Glencoe, MN on July 6, 1948 to Clyde and Florence (Anderson) Emery. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She attended and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1966. After high school she pursued a teaching degree from St. Cloud State University. Julie was united in marriage to Mark Adrian Peterson at Community Bible Church on August 19, 1978 in Montevideo. They made their home in Montevideo for 47 years and raised two beautiful children, John Mark and Annie Rae.

Julie’s teaching career focused on her home and working with children; as a home school mom, in the public school as a Title-1 teacher, a KinderMusic instructor, and in the Montevideo summer migrant school program. She also loved helping children learn Bible verses in the Sonlight program at the church they attended. Julie taught 3rd grade in Granite Falls and had a pen pal relationship with her sister’s 3rd grade class on Rosebud Reservation in So. Dakota. She also Co-coordinated Camp Courage Day Camp in Smith Park.

Julie enjoyed walking, reading, having coffee with friends and family, vacationing at Sunny Point, first with her family, then with her own family and extended family members. She loved Cajun music and dancing at the Cajun Fest in Walker, MN. Julie was proud of the quilts she made from vintage hankies and sentimental t-shirts.

Julie was a loving wife, mother, sister, friend, coworker, and will be missed immeasurably. She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and had a heart for helping those in need.

Julie enjoyed her new daughter-in-law, Hannah, her son-in-law, Manuel and her grandchildren: Novianna, Ocoee, Haran, and Manuelito. She loved her nieces and nephews and treasured the time she was able to spend with Leandro and Noelia Homan and Jules Harper.

Julie is survived by her husband, Mark Peterson of Montevideo; her two children, John Peterson and his wife Hannah, Annie Peterson and her husband Manuel; and grandchildren Novianna, Ocoee, Haran, and Manuelito; sisters Jeri (Fred) Blom, Montevideo; Janet (Dan) McClung, Akeley, MN; and brother Bob (Terri) Emery, Montevideo; seven nieces and nephews (Andrew, Carrie, Emily, Adam, Brittni, Bryton, Ben, Riley; and extended family).
