Larry Larson

Larry Larson of the Hagen/Big Bend area died Friday, August 7, 2026 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 75.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 1:30 PM at Big Bend Lutheran Church. Rev. Linda Molitor will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, from 5-7:00 PM at Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo and at the church for one hour before the service.

Larry Michael Larson was born on November 6, 1950, in Montevideo, Minnesota, to Virgil and Mavis (Lein) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed and was a lifelong member of Big Bend Lutheran Church.

Larry attended Barduson County School through sixth grade and graduated from Milan High School in 1968. He went on to attend Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where he earned a degree in Political Science and International Relations in 1972. During his college years, Larry participated in two exchange programs, one in Richmond, Virginia, and another in Puerto Rico. In 1973, Larry enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard, where he served for ten years.

Larry spent three years as an assistant buyer for Donaldson Department Store in St. Paul, Minnesota, before returning home to Milan in 1982 to join Larson Gravel Company, where he worked until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Larry was committed to his community and his faith. He was involved with five Masonic Lodges and was active in the ELCA Lutheran Church. He also served as chairman of the Lac Qui Parle Conference.

Larry was active in the Chippewa County DFL and was a longtime member of the Historical Society. He served on its Board of Directors from 2001 to 2010, serving as secretary from 2002 to 2003 and president from 2004 to 2006. He continued his involvement as an Endowment Board member until 2019.

While Larry accomplished many things throughout his life, those who knew him best will remember him for the simple things that brought him the greatest peace. Larry had a deep love watching the wildlife around him, especially the birds and deer.

Larry would often say, “God’s greatest blessings were seeing his blue jays, cardinals, and the deer.” Those simple moments reflected much of what Larry valued—peace, solitude, nature, and the beauty found in everyday life.

Larry will be remembered for his quiet spirit, his love of animals, his dedication to his faith and community, and the simple way he found contentment in life.

Larry is survived by his twin sister, Linda (Larson) Haugen of Piedmont, South Dakota; sister, Lois (Larson) Doring of Champlin, Minnesota; nephews Tyler Haugen of Sturgis, South Dakota, Tadd Haugen of Sundance, Wyoming, Will Haugen of Chamberlain, South Dakota, Matt Doring of Big Lake, Minnesota, and Josh Doring of Champlin, Minnesota; and niece Lane Shull of Piedmont, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mavis Larson; brother-in-law, Tim Haugen
