Lila Ann Hendrickson was born on February 18, 1932, in Rosewood Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota, to Alma (Stensrud) and Harold Hendrickson. She was baptized and confirmed at Watson Lutheran Church. Lila graduated from Montevideo High School in 1949. On March 25, 1952, she married Duane Nevins at Watson Lutheran Church. To this union three children were born. Together, they made their home on a farm near Dawson. On May 26, 1962, Duane passed away in a farming accident. Following his death, Lila moved with their children to Dawson, where she continued to raise them on her own.
In Dawson, Lila began a successful career in the insurance industry, which spanned more than 30 years. She started with Briggs Insurance and later worked with Minnwest Investment & Insurance following the company’s transition.
Lila was an active and devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church, participating in the Church Women’s Circle and contributing her talents to quilting projects. She was also a proud member of the Dawson American Legion Auxiliary.
Lila enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and was an enthusiastic sports fan. She especially loved listening to the Blackjacks on the radio and following the Minnesota Twins. Above all, Lila treasured the time spent with her family. She never missed an opportunity to attend her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events, always cheering them on as their biggest supporter.
Lila is survived by her children, Susan (Scott) Oster of Lakeville, MN and their children, Jonathan Oster and Alex Oster, Douglas (Alice) Nevins of Avon, MN and their children Eric Nevins (Breanna Mettinen) and Brianna (Eric) Kurtz, and John (Diane) Nevins of Dawson, MN and their children Jennifer (Brian) Haugen, Kristin (Dan) Kvaal and Stephanie Nevins; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Stevens; sister-in-law, Ruth (Carl) Klein; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
