Martha Jean Boozer was born on October 31, 1950, in Hogansville, GA, to Fred and Virginia (Stone) Boozer. Luther Torfinn Opjorden was born on February 22, 1945, in Montevideo, MN, to Torfinn and Ella (Nelson) Opjorden. Luther and Martha met while Luther was stationed in Georgia with the United States Army. They were united in marriage on July 17, 1970, in Columbus, GA.

Luther was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1970, and the couple made their home in Milan, MN, where Luther later built their family home in the late 1970s. While living in Milan, Luther worked as a farmer and as an architectural draftsman. Martha held several jobs over the years, but her greatest role was her work alongside Luther on the family farm. To this union, three children were born: Christopher, Stewart, and Nicholas.

Luther and Martha shared many interests and enjoyed spending time together water skiing, bowling, playing softball, playing cards - especially “buck” and more recently played a dice game called farkle every morning and evening. They loved to travel and took many trips to Colorado visiting family and friends. Luther also spent time running and hiking and was an accomplished runner. He had a special talent for woodworking, creating many projects for family members and building furniture for their home.

Another important part of the Opjorden home was their dedication to weather observation. The Opjorden family has provided weather information to the National Weather Service for 139 years and counting. Most of all, their children and grandchildren always came first. Luther and Martha rarely missed a school activity and could be found at every sporting event, school concert, or activity their family was involved in.

Martha and Luther are survived by their sons, Christopher (Naomi) Opjorden of Litchfield, Stewart Opjorden of Colorado Springs, CO, and Nicholas Opjorden of Milan; grandchildren, Viveka, Elsa, Ila, and Torfinn Opjorden; Martha’s sister, Raye Adcock of Fortson, GA; and several extended family and friends.

They were preceded in death by their parents; Martha’s sisters, Ruth Stanley, Faye Pratt and Nancy Beckham; Luther’s sister, Carolyn Tande; Martha’s brother, Jimmy Boozer; and brothers-in-law, Larry Tande, Sherman Adcock and Butch Pratt.
