Marvis Ketelsen, of Montevideo, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 104.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Pastor Donald S. McKee and Pastor Michelle Rowell will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Marvis Ione Gates was born on February 12, 1922, in Dawson, Minnesota, to Leo and Mabel Gates. She was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Marvis attended Clarkfield High School, graduating in 1941.
On July 12, 1941, she was united in marriage to Walter “Bill” Ketelsen in Albert Lea, Minnesota. They made their home near Montevideo, where they raised their two children, Janet and Steven. Bill farmed while Marvis cared for their home and family.
Marvis was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and camping. She also loved cooking and baking for her family, especially making her donuts, “Grandma’s” pancakes, lefse, and futchens.
Family was very important to Marvis, and she took great pride in caring for those around her.
Marvis is survived by her children, Janet (Robert) Barwick of Montevideo and Steven (Diane) Ketelsen of Montevideo; grandchildren, Angie (Mike) Peters, Jayne (David) Hanson, Joe (Christy) Barwick, Sheila (John) Dokken, Tes Ketelsen, Lisa (Donnie) Anderson, Krista (Pat) Brannan; great-grandchildren, Adam Peters, Andrew (Nicole) Peters, Allison Hanson, Amanda (Josh) Mackner, Kate (Hunter) Oberle, William Barwick, Shelby Barwick, Danielle Dokken (Jacob Heyne), Dee Dokken (Cameron Decker), Parker Anderson, Jadyn Anderson, Brady Anderson, Karlee Brannan, Kaci Brannan, Isaak Brannan; great-great-grandchildren, Archie Peters, Teddy Peters, Adaku Zuri Onu and Cameron Mackner; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill in 1992; siblings, Verna (Thomas) Ketelsen, Benton (Marguerite) Gates, Russell (Mavis) Gates and Phyllis Gates.
