Mary Beth Howard

Mary Howard, of Benson, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2026, at her home in Benson at the age of 66.

A celebration of life will be hosted by the family at a later date.

Mary Beth Ascheman was born on July 1, 1960, in Benson, MN, to John and Norma (Matthies) Ascheman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Clontarf, MN. Mary attended school in Clontarf for six years before continuing her education and graduating from Benson High School.

She was united in marriage to Steven Howard on January 19, 1990. The couple made their home in Benson and were blessed with one son, Jason. Throughout her life, Mary held various jobs, most recently working as the kitchen manager at the Shell Gas Station in Benson.

Mary enjoyed riding motorcycles with Steven, and together they traveled throughout Minnesota. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her great joy.

Mary is survived by her husband, Steven; son, Jason Howard of Benson, MN; grandchildren, Gabrinna Howard, Jameson Howard, Antonio McCain, and Cienna McCain; brother, Daryl (Gwen) Ascheman of Benson; sisters, Anita Smith of Willmar and Jean Staton of Clontarf; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers-in-law, Dave Smith and Mark Staton.
