Merlyn Stanley Hanson passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025 at the Montevideo Veterans Home.
A celebration of life service will be held at I:00PM on Wednesday, April 30th, 2025 at Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM at the church on the day of the service.
Merlyn was born on July 28, 1930 to Melvin and Sadie (Norem) Hanson. He was baptized and made his confession of faith to his Lord and Savior.
He served in the Army from 1952-1954 in Germany during the Korean War.
Merlyn married the love of his life, Ruth Antonson, on July 2, 1954. They had four children together, Dennis, Karen, Shelly and Scott. He really enjoyed spending time with his family.
Merlyn worked at Eckholm’s, Meyer and Son’s, Molde’s and was a dispatcher for the Montevideo Volunteer Fire Department where he served as a fireman for 20 years. He then started working for CPI (Cable Plowing Inc) and Clara City Telephone Company for 25 years and retired in 1995.
Merlyn was a member of the Montevideo Volunteer Fire Department, Montevideo American Legion Post #59, Montevideo VFW Post #380 and Heritage Hill. He was a member of Hope Reformed Church.
His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were tops in his book. He was so precious to his family. He had a lot of love for people, enjoyed talking and was always concerned about others. He always brought us out of our downs and always said, “It will get better.” He had a lot of love in his heart for God.
Merlyn and Ruth enjoyed traveling together to Branson, Niagara Falls, the Black Hills and Florida. They loved beautiful sunsets at the lake, to look at nature and all the beautiful things that God made.
Merlyn is survived by his wife Ruth, children, Dennis (Julie) Hanson, Karen (Stan) Kaatz, Shelly (Steve) Anderson and Scott (Sara) Hanson, nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and many other family members.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Montevideo Fire Department, Minnesota Veterans Home Montevideo, Relay for Life and CCM Health Ambulance.
