Norma Olson

Norma Olson, of Alexandria and formerly of Apple Valley, MN, died on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the age of 71. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 25th at 2 pm at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo, MN. Visitation 1-2 pm prior to the service. Interment Sunset Memorial Cemetery following the service. 

Norma Jean Olson was born on May 11, 1954 in Montevideo, MN to Roland and Virginia (Austin) Olson. She was baptized, confirmed and grew up in Marshall, MN, graduating from Marshall High School in 1972. She graduated from Moorhead State College and moved to the Twin Cities. Most recently, Norma worked for the State of MN as a Credit Union Auditor for more than 25 years until she retired. Following her retirement, Norma moved to Lake Ida, Alexandria, MN. She loved her family and her beloved dog Scotty. She enjoyed music, animals, nature, gadgets, cooking shows, airplane tracking, social justice and quarter bets on football games with her mother. Norma will be remembered for her deep faith, sense of humor, her tender heart, and charitable giving, which included sponsorship of two Compassion International children for over 20 years; Bertha from Bolivia & Nikos from Indonesia.

 Norma is survived by her mother, Virginia “Ginny” Olson, sister Linda Russell of Blaine, MN and her daughter Melissa Speiser (Justin); her brother Byron “Bud” Olson and his wife Mary of Rapid City, SD and their children Chris, Jacqueline Lane (Dan), Sara Fox (Josh) and Tom (Jesse) and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her father, Roland and brother-in-law, Bruce Russell.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made in the form of a contribution to Douglas County Food Shelf or to a local Humane Society in memory of Norma’s passions.
