Reggie Windingstad died Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson at the age of 59.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 1:30 PM in the Chapel at Johnson Memorial Care Center with Rev. Kendall Stelter officiating.
Visitation will be held at the nursing home for one hour before the service.
Reginald Windingstad was born in Dawson, MN on June 10, 1958 to Randolph and Inga Windingstad. The youngest of three children. He attained all of his schooling in Dawson and graduated from Dawson High School where he played bass tuba in the High School Band. Reggie also played baseball and basketball throughout high school. He was great at basketball due to his 6 foot 4 inch height advantage. Following graduation, Reggie attended two years at the Canby Vo-Tech School where he continued to play basketball. He graduated from there with a degree in Agriculture Production. Reggie was never married, but he did have a special girlfriend he split up with due to his multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 1978 at the age of 19.
Reggie was very active in the Farmers Union Youth groups, 4-H, and was president of the Luther League at Providence Valley Lutheran Church. He also sang in the church choir.
Reggie loved to be outdoors where he could hunt pheasants, deer, and ducks, and drive his three wheeler around on the farm. He enjoyed dancing and attended dances at the Lake Benton Opera House. He also enjoyed country music, going to movies and watching them on DVD. Reggie always liked to watch ballgames and the news on TV, and loved to have company. He traveled to Canada, Denver, San Antonio, The World’s Fair, and the Black Hills twice. Reggie took delight in attending both state fairs and county fairs. He was a big eater and loved going out to eat.
Reggie is survived by his two sisters: Valerie (Doug) Ascher and their son, Ryan (Kansas) Ascher of Roseville, MN and Nancy (Walt) Amble and their two children, Lisa and Brian and special friend Samantha Will of Minneapolis, MN; friend, Joann Clausen; aunt, Anita Nelson; and several cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
