Bob was born June 17, 1956, in Appleton, Minnesota, to Marvin and Mary Matthies. He entered into the loving arms of Jesus on the evening of March 31st, 2026. He grew up on the family farm in Holloway, where he developed a lifelong love of farming. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and graduated from Appleton High School, where he played football and wrestled.

Bob was known for his strong work ethic and quick sense of humor. He especially loved time with his grandchildren, hunting with his dad, and taking his ’71 El Camino out on the open road. On the farm, he found joy in the simple things playing with calves and raising peacocks.

He will be remembered for his ability to make others smile and for his memorable advice: “Stop wishing for what you can’t have—embrace what you have.”

Bob is survived by his four children, Kristy Matthies, Nancy Melton (Tim), Tracy Scharfbillig, (Joe) and Matthew Matthies (Courtney), his three sisters Paulette Bork (Doug), Judy Michaelson (Roger), Shirley Bartz, 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Mary Matthies, his daughter Jessica and his great grandchild, Baby Michael Pryne.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 8th at 10AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton, Minnesota. There will be a visitation at 9am, prior to the service. He will be buried in a private family ceremony at St. John’s Cemetery. To view a livestream of Robert’s funeral click on the following link
