Sylvia M. Birkeland

Sylvia Birkeland, of Louriston Twp, died on Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 91.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at the Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church with Rev. Carlton Nelson officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.

Sylvia M Birkeland was born on March 3, 1912 in Freeborn Co., MN to Conrad and Aase (Bergeson) Birkeland.  She was baptized at Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Freeborn Co., MN.  At the age of 6 she moved with her family to Chippewa Co., MN.  She was confirmed at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church and graduated from rural school District # 36.  She lived most of her life in Chippewa Co. and spent several winters in Minneapolis doing housework and working at Northwestern Hospital.  She was a member of Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church and active in it’s women’s groups.  She enjoyed flowers, gardening, travel and being with her family.

She is survived by brothers Albert Birkeland of Merrifield, MN and Norman Birkeland of Maynard, MN; sister, Florence Felber and her husband Harvey of Bloomington, MN; a number of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by brothers, Clarence and Nuel Birkeland; by sisters, Alvina Dyshaw, Nora Kramer, Sophie Kramer; as well as by a brother Albert and a sister Olga in infancy.
