Wendell Gubrud, of Dawson, died Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson at the age of 89.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson. Pastor Kendall Stelter will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Arrangements are with Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.
Wendell Paul Gubrud was born October 24, 1931 in Canby, MN to Clarence and Josephine (Peterson) Gubrud. He attended country school until eighth grade, then attended and graduated from Canby High School. After high school Wendell enlisted in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Margaret Klefsaas on October 11, 1953 at Borgund Lutheran Church. They had three children together: Paul, Pam, and Patti. After Margaret’s passing in 2007, Wendell was united in marriage to Ruth Leppke in 2009.
Wendell was an active member at Grace Lutheran Church where he served on the church council for many years. He was involved with Boy Scouts, City Council, and the VFW. Wendell always spoke with pride about his public service in the Dawson community. Wendell worked most of his life at AGP in Dawson, retiring as sales manager. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors and relaxing on Toad Lake.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Paul (Denise) Gubrud of Pelican Rapids, Pam (Mike) Pease of Ham Lake, and Patti (Mike) Geyen of Waconia; grandchildren, Emily and Laura Geyen, Jeffery (Peg) Boese and Joshua (Jen) Boese; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Haleigh Boese; sisters, Marlyn Schoephoester of Hoffman and Joan (Lyle) Forsythe of New Hope; and several other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and his parents.
