William "Bill" Zarnke, of Montevideo, died Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Appleton Care Center at the age of 87.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Watson Lutheran Church with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Wisconsin.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7:00 PM at Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo and at the church for one hour before the service.
William Kenneth Zarnke was born August 15, 1938 at March Rapids, WI the son of William and Esther (Schnabel) Zarnke. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1956 and served in the US Marines from 1956 to 1962. After his discharge, he lived in Wisconsin. He was united in marriage with Peggy Krause May 9, 1981 in Marsh Rapids, WI. They moved to Montevideo in 1983. Bill worked at Micro Dynamics, Friendship Homes, American Surplus, Ice Castle, and at Ace Hardware. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing pool and darts.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; children: Jeff (Donna) Zarnke of Muskogee, OK, David (Leslie) Zarnke of Muskogee, OK, Gary Zarnke of Shelton, WA, Kelly Zarnke of Shelton, WA, Kristine Zarnke of Muskogee, OK, William (Sandra) Zarnke, Jr. of Montevideo, Stacy (Don) Bagaus of Montevideo, MN, Amy (JD) Hogrefe of Montevideo, MN, and Kimberly (John) VanEidie of Erwin, SD; grandchildren: Carissa, Jeffery, Lauren, Brandon, Josh, Corey, Kyza, Ashley, Chelsea, Dillon, Tiffany, William Lewis, Jessica, Zachary, Brittany, Andrea, Kayleah, and Jackson William; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a granddaughter, Chelsea; two sisters: Ila Mae (Edward "Butch") Strathmann and Verna (Wayne) Birkett; and two brothers: Clarence (Evelyn) Zarnke and Dennis Zarnke.
