Curt Berg Obituary

Curt Berg, of Montevideo, died on Monday, October 21st, 2019 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale at the age of 79.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at  United Methodist Church  in Montevideo with Rev. Sam Kautz officiating.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 5-7PM at United Methodist Church in Montevideo with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.  Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to service on Saturday.

Curtis Vance Berg was born on February 12, 1940 in Chamberlain, SD to Oliver and Alice (Eleeson) Berg.  He was baptized in Reliance, SD, where he also graduated from high school in 1958.  Curt graduated from the National School of Meat Cutting University in Toledo, OH in June 1961.  He was set up on a blind date that same month with MaryAnn Kopsas in Sioux Falls, SD.  They married in March of 1962.  Their union bore three children: Sandra, Scott and Steve.  He worked as a meat cutter for 21 years ending up in Montevideo working at Gary’s Red Owl and Coborn’s until he was in a car accident forcing him to retire in 1985.  He also served as an EMT for Montevideo Hospital, as well as teaching classes.  Finally, he worked as the jail dispatcher of the Montevideo Sheriff’s Department where he eventually became Jail Administrator and retired in 2005.  

Curt enjoyed watching the Minnesota twins.  He also enjoyed camping in his RV during the summertime, along with traveling to keep in touch with distant family and friends.  He was also very devoted to restoring antique tractors.  He was passionate about snowmobiles and was president of the MN-USA.  He also belonged to the Montevideo Snowdrifters and the Appleton Ridge Runners.  He was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary and also belonged to the United Methodist Church.

Curt is survived by his wife, MaryAnn of 57 years; his three children: Sandra O’Meara, Scott (Kathy Winters) and Steve (Lynn); nine grandchildren: Krista, Rory, Ryan, Danielle, Felicia, Maitlyn (Evan), Maddie (Berry), Charlene (Mason) and Arielle (Levi); 14 great-grandchildren: Phe’nix, Pharaoh, Selah, Ryder, Jayden, Kaydence, Colton, Ryker, Jayden, Wylliam, Anthony, Lillian, Hunter and Landon; and his brothers and sisters: Royce and Lynn, Tony and Kaye, Jill and Raye Feist and Julie and Ali Amnipour.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
