Evelyn Hanson

Evelyn Hanson of Dawson, Minnesota went to her eternal reward on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Johnson Memorial Care Center at the age of 97. 

There will be a memorial service for Evelyn at the Dawson Covenant Church on Saturday, March 27th at 1:00 p.m.  Arrangements are with Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home.  Please direct any memorial gifts to the West Central Gideons.

Evelyn Isadora (Anderson) Hanson or “Evie” as she was called by many, was born at home to Andrew W. Anderson and Mayme Swenson Anderson on March 17, 1923 in Maxwell Township of Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota.  From childhood, Evelyn faithfully attended the Dawson Covenant Church with her family where she was confirmed and baptized as a young girl.  Evelyn graduated from Dawson High School in 1941.  After graduation, she took on a job as secretary for Attorneys Saltness & Lentz before going to work at the Northwestern State Bank in Dawson MN as a cashier.  She gave up her career as head teller at the bank to become a homemaker and mother when she married Milo C. Hanson in the Dawson Covenant Church on February 14, 1959.  She became an instant mother to Sandra, age 12; Rita, age 9, Clifford, age 8, and Rebecca, age 3.  She remained a dedicated mother to her stepchildren until her death.

Evelyn was known as a kind and gentle person by all who met her.  She lived a life of service to others and was a dedicated member of the Christian Women’s Club, Providence Homemakers, MN Soil & Water Conservation Auxiliary, Johnson Memorial Auxiliary, and the West Central Gideon Auxiliary.  She enjoyed reading, quilting, needlepoint and entertaining.  As a member of Dawson Covenant Church, she was part of Covenant Women and held many offices in the church as well as taught Sunday School and Bible School.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Milo Hanson; her parents, Andrew & Mayme Anderson; siblings Maynard Anderson, Lloyd Anderson, Phyllis Anderson Lundin, and Lucille Anderson.  

Evelyn is survived by her sister, Vivian Edstrom of Northbrook, IL; her stepchildren Sandra (Ivan) Sagal of Moravian Falls, NC; Rita Guimont of North Wilkesboro, NC; Clifford (Dawn) Hanson of Dawson MN; Rebecca Hanson of Willmar, MN, as well as 7 grandchildren.
