Kenneth Hill Obituary

Kenneth Hill of Montevideo passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Rosewood in Montevideo at the age of 89.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating.  Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.

Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.

Kenneth Le Roy Hill was born October 31, 1931 in Morris, MN to Carl and Irene (Erickson) Hill.  He had two brothers and three sisters.  Ken was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Morris.  At the age of 21, Ken served two years in the United States Army.  On December 24th, 1955 Ken was united in marriage to Delores Lorraine Johnson.  They had two children, Debra and Daniel Hill.

Ken and Delores built their first home in 1956 on 11th Street in Montevideo.  Shortly thereafter, in 1959 Ken started Hill Construction.  Ken and Delores moved out to the country in May 1976, where they began a new chapter of farming crops.  Ken and Delores joined Our Saviors Lutheran Church in 1955 where Ken served as head usher and helped with various building projects.

Ken enjoyed playing and listening to music.  He played several instruments “by ear”including piano, harmonica, banjo, and bass guitar, which he played for several years in a band called “Golden Country”.  Ken was a long time member of American Legion Post #59 and was one the founders of the Military Honor Guard.  He advocated for and helped with the building of the Community Center in Montevideo.  One of Ken’s greatest past time was playing cards with friends and family.  His grandkids will especially remember him for his crafty Buck playing skills and his witty one liners.

Ken is survived by his wife, Delores; two children: Deb (Dennis) Brandon, Danny (Lorrie Solseth) Hill; six grandchildren: Rhea (Trevor) Murphy, Kohler (Holly Hawkins) Brandon, Ross (Katie Salisbury) Brandon, Eric (Courtney Bronniche) Brandon, Tasha Hill, Tyler Hill; 8 great-grandchildren: Hunter Campbell, Brandon Murphy, Merritt Brandon, Kellen Murphy, Drew Brandon, Leo Brandon, Beau Brandon, and Ford Brandon; and sister Darlene (Hill) Stubler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Donald and Gordon Hill; sisters: Joanne (Hill) Graff and Marilyn (Hill) Kaehler.
