Melvin Oman

Melvin J. Oman, of Madison, died Sunday, August 19, 2018 at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson at the age of 89.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 1:30 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.  Rev. Bruce Bringle will officiate and interment will be at Dawson Cemetery.

Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home.

Melvin  was born October 15, 1928 in Dawson, MN.  He was the son of Hans "Casper" and Ella (Storlien) Oman. He was one of 14 children, and the last one remaining.  He attended school and grew up in the Dawson area.  Melvin married Harriet Beecher and they moved to California where they had 5 children. He worked  hard on road and bridge building for many years  and traveled around the United States in the off time.  

Melvin had many hobbies throughout his life,  he enjoyed, playing cards, playing pool, fishing and hunting.  He would talk a lot about hunting and Fishing at Deer Creek with a brother Herb. He later married Pearl Halvorson in the early 1990's where they lived on a farm south of Madison where she died in 1998.

His last years he lived in Madison and spent a lot of time with his Special Neice Tristin Bothun,  (Granddaughter of Dolly)  He watched as her family grew to 4 children, he watched them  grow and enjoyed when they came for a visit.   She was a dear friend, his house keeper and his care giver.  They spent countless hours together laughing, going for drives, and visiting.  

Melvin is survived by his children and numerous nieces and nephews .

Preceding him in Death were his parents, nine brothers:  Lester, Harold, Engvold "Billie", Marvin, Dewey, Herb, Burdeen, Kenneth and Burt Lester; and four Sisters: Erma Nelson, Margaret "Tootsie" Nelson, Charlotte "Dolly" Krugerud, and Ellen "Babe" Buhr.
