Merle Eugene Schroeder was born February 14, 1946 in Willmar, MN to Casper and Fraynia (Armstrong) Schroeder.  He was baptized at the Christian Reformed Church and confirmed at the Methodist Church both of Raymond, MN.  He graduated from Montevideo High School.  As a teenager and young man he worked for area farmers, at the local grocery store and with his Grandfather Herman Schroeder in his cement block business.  He was united in marriage to Sharon Eddy November 2, 1963 in Montevideo. To this union three children were born.  He later attended Dunwoody Institute earning a degree in the fledgling field of computer science.  This endeavor took him and his young family out East for a few years before moving back to Montevideo to be closer to family.  He owned and operated a body shop in Milan and later he worked at Friendship Homes in Montevideo as their primary tool repair expert.  He was proud of his three boys, their families and all their accomplishments through the years.

Merle was united in marriage to Marcia Hesse, December 31, 2008, in Alberta, MN.  When he moved to Alberta, he opened his own tool repair business.  Many contractors in the area were regular customers.  It seemed he could fix anything and was an honest businessman.  He was an active member of the Alberta Trinity Lutheran Church.

He had a great love for horses and his dogs.  He enjoyed all types of music and defeating his wife Marcia at Scrabble.  Merle was very interested in his German heritage and enjoyed the time spent with both sets of German grandparents, aunts and uncles as a child growing up in Raymond, MN.

Merle is survived by his children: Matthew (Daniella) Schroeder of Montevideo, Michael (Young Sun) Schroeder of Milan, and Brent (Tracey) Schroeder of Cosmos. Grandchildren: Rick (Tasha) Schroeder, Lori (Drew) Gilbertson, Lisa Schroeder-Varberg, Rachel (Bruce) Peirce, Amber (Hays) Hine, and Brad Schroeder. Great-grandchildren: Magdalyn, Madyson, Camden, Macey, Matthew, Maci, Austyn, Piper, and Freyja. Sisters: Cheryl Grussing, Karen (Dave) Stutelberg, Kim (Mark) Friedland, and Barb (Dan) Baker; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Ruth Soderman, Ron Schroeder, Bob Schroeder, and Deb Kivisto.
