Steve Jordahl Obituary

Steve Jordahl died Saturday, April 20, 2019 at his parent's (Vern and Jan Jordahl) home in Montevideo, MN at the age of 58.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with  Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service starting at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Steven Todd Jordahl was born January 6, 1961 at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis.  He was baptized at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1979.  He attended college and graduated from the U of M - Morris, MN in 1983.  Steve received his Masters degree from St. Cloud University and his Doctorate degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND.

Steve was a teacher in Litchfield, MN and Willmar, MN, and a principal in Albert Lea, MN and Alexandria, MN.  He became the school superintendent in Barnesville, MN and superintendent of schools in St. Cloud, MN.  He became the administrator of St. Paul American schools in Shanghai, China, and then at St. Paul American schools in Beijing, China.  Steve spent four years in China before moving on to Hanoi, Vietnam as the administrator of American schools for the past four years. 

Steve was married to Chris Bakke to which two children, Nicole & Derek, were born.  He was later married to Nancy Wohlers to which Sydney was born.  

Steve was an outstanding athlete at Montevideo High School in football, basketball, and baseball.  He went on to play football at the U of M Morris.  Steve was also an avid fisherman and hunter.  He was dedicated to his work and loved being a leader.  His children were the most important in his life.  

Steve is survived by his children: Derek and Sydney; his brother, David; parents: Vern (Jan) Jordahl of Montevideo; nephew, Tyler Jordahl; and special friend, Vera of Hanoi, Vietnam.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nicole, to whom he dedicated the book he wrote, “My Life Experience Led to My Leadership”.

A special thank you to Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they gave to Steve, and also to Gregg Waylander, NP for his many visits to see and administer health care to Steve.
