Vernon Indermuhle

Vernon C. Indermuhle of Broomfield, Colorado, passed away on February 2, 2020, at the age of 91.

Graveside services will be held Monday, March 2, 2020 at 1:30 PM at Big Bend Lutheran Church Cemetery.  

Vern was born on May 15, 1928, in Boise, Idaho, to Charles and Lena Indermuhle. Vernon and his older sister Charlene shared many memories of a loving family and a wonderful childhood.

After graduating from high school in Meridian, Idaho, he worked for a few years before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1950. He served as an Aviation Electronics Technician, Second Class aboard vessels VF63 and VF191 from 1950 to 1954. During his time in the Navy, he earned the right to wear the ribbons for Korean service, United Nations, National Defense, and Good Conduct.

Following his time in the service, he attended the University of Idaho, graduating in 1958 with a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering. While working for the U. S. Geological Survey in Reno, Nevada, he met his future wife, Charlene Jacobs. Vern and Charlene were married on February 4, 1961, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They loved visiting National Parks, camping, traveling with their R.V., and spending time in St. George, Utah. They were able to live in different parts of the country throughout his career, but Colorado was the place they loved.

After Charlene’s death in 1995, Vern was very lonely until he met Gerrie Arntzen. Gerrie brought light and laughter into his life, and he loved her dearly. During their 19 years together, they were able to take several road trips, but they particularly enjoyed their trips “up the mountain” to Blackhawk. Vern’s nieces, Regie and Bunny, would like to thank Gerrie’s daughter Kandee Lenocker and her husband Don for all the time they spent with Vern and the help they gave him. He also enjoyed spending time with Gerrie’s sons Steve and Kurt Arntzen, as well as their children and grandchildren.

Vern’s family will always remember and deeply miss his quick wit, mischievous smile, boundless curiosity, and genuinely caring heart.  We will miss you forever, Uncle Vernon.

Vern is survived by his nieces, Regie (Dick) McFarland and Cherie “Bunny” (Jeff) Stevens; Gerrie Arntzen; sister-in-law Geneva (Lyle) Canton; brother-in-law Charles (Marilyn) Jacobs; numerous nieces and nephews in Minnesota; great-nieces and nephews Jennifer (Jon) McFarland Stouffer and A. J. (Sam) McFarland; K.C. (Leah) Stevens and Shea (Stephen) Schrater as well as great-great-nieces Madeline Stevens and Lennon Schrater and great-great-nephew Milo Stevens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Charlene, his sister Charlene Matter, and his sister-in-law Charlotte Gilsurd.
