Gladys (Anderson) Winge

February 16, 1921 ~ February 8, 2016 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Gladys H. (Anderson) Winge was born on February 16, 1921 in Boyd, MN to Anker and Marie (Martinson) Anderson.  She was baptized on March 16, 1921 and confirmed on May 5, 1935 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boyd. She attended country school in District #55.  Gladys was united in marriage to Clarence LeRoy Winge on June 19, 1940 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd.  The couple moved to Dawson, MN where they raised their six children.

In 1953, tragedy struck the family when her husband Clarence, age 33, drowned in a fishing accident.  Gladys was 32 years old and there were five surviving children between the ages of one and twelve years of age.  She undertook the challenge of raising her family and earned the love and respect of family and friends as she did so.

Gladys worked in the lunch room of the Dawson Public School while raising her children.  Later, she worked as a dietary aid in the Chippewa County Hospital in Montevideo.  Gladys was a meticulous and creative seamstress.  To visit her was to enjoy great homemade treats or a lovely meal.  She was an excellent homemaker and found great joy in her family and friends.  Family will remember her for her love of family and her graciousness.

She is survived by her children: LeRoy (Joan) Winge of Castle Rock, CO, LaVonda Akre of Blaine, MN, Arlyce (Mahlon) Femrite of Castle Rock, CO, Ardell (Pam) Winge of Hasting, MN and Betty (Pete) Sedlacek of Hastings, MN; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mildred Jordahl of Dawson and Edith (Rodney) Logeland of Bloomington, MN; and many other family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Clarence; an infant daughter, Betty Jean; two granddaughters: Tiffany Ballard and Tammy Rice; and great-grandson, Colin Bettis; three sisters: Agnes and Alice in infancy, and Bernice Jordahl; her brother, Jay Anderson; sister-in-law, Doris Anderson; and brother-in-law, Alvie Jordahl.
