John A. Dyshaw was born in Montevideo  on November 2, 1931 to John and Alvina (Birkeland) Dyshaw.  He grew up in Montevideo and attended school, graduating in 1949. In school John was an outstanding athlete.  He was named All Conference and honorable mention All-State in football and still holds the school record for the 880 Relay in Track.   On June 15, 1952  John was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Lois Lund. They were both so supportive and proud of each other.   They had three children together: Brad, Gary and Lori.  John farmed all his life and loved the land.  Family remembers that he would take one route into town and another route home so that he could survey all the crops.  He was a progressive farmer receiving the award for Conservation Farmer of the Year.   He also served on the Sparta Township Board for many years Following retirement John would  tell Lois and family that he was going to the “Office” which meant he was meeting his friends at Trailways..

John and Lois were lifetime members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.  He was very active in the church ushering every February for 30 years, serving as a deacon, putting up the Christmas tree, and serving communion to shut-ins were among the many jobs he enjoyed at the church.  John was also active in other community groups such as Let’s Go Fishing and Watson Lions Club.   He received one of the Lion’s Club highest honors, the Melvin-Jones award.

Family remembers John as a kind, honest, and fair person.  He loved his children and grandchildren very much and attended with pride  any event they were involved in.    One of John’s other loves was hunting.  He hunted with family and friends in northern Minnesota and was always excited about the  hunt but really loved just being together with family.   When he was not able to hunt he would  spend time watching  outdoor shows of hunting and fishing and  the TV show “Pickers”.  Sports were also  a part of his life and he would follow Montevideo High School sports but also would not miss any of the Minnesota sport teams especially the Gophers and Twins.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois; his children: Brad (Sue) Dyshaw, Montevideo, Gary Dyshaw, Eagan, Lori (Doug) Rynda, Chanhassen; grandchildren: Nicole (Simon) Bauer, Samantha (Mike) Scheffler, Cody (Alissa) Dyshaw, Nicholas (Melissa) Dyshaw, Brittany (Andrew) Stewart, Lindsay Rynda, and Danny Rynda; eight  great-grandchildren: Roman, Katie, Guy, Max, Tory, Dalton, Taryn and Juliet; brother-in-law,  Jerry (Jan) Lund; nieces and nephews: Ron (Gail) Jerve, Bruce (Melva) Jerve, Dave (Chris) Jerve, JoAnn (Kris) Kolstad, Kathy (Brad) Lindemann, Terri (Chuck) Vien and Michael (Dee) Lund as well as extended family and friends
