Margaret E. (Nicolai) Larsen

Margaret Larsen, of Maynard, died Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 97.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Maynard Presbyterian Church in Maynard, MN with Rev. Beverly Crute officiating.  Burial will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.  

Visitation will be held for one hour before the services at the church.  

Margaret Elizabeth (Nicolai) Larsen was born September 17, 1919 to Emil and Emilee (Keller) Nicolai on the family farm near Maynard, MN.  She was baptized and confirmed into the Methodist faith.  Margaret graduated from Maynard High School in 1937.   

Margaret married Merlin Larsen at their home on November 10, 1944 and to this union two children were born. She became a member of the Maynard Presbyterian Church where she was a very active member.  She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, being on various committees, and volunteering her time and energy where it was needed.  

She was also an avid Twins fan. Margaret was happiest taking care of everyone else; usually with food - her fried chicken and homemade pies were family favorites.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, participated in card club, and in flower club.  Margaret loved gardening, flowers, baking, cooking, entertaining, playing cards, and was very good at quilting and sewing.  She loved her family and friends - always putting them first especially her two grandchildren.  

Margaret is survived by her children, Gary Larsen of Maynard, MN and Mary (Dale) Rasmussen of Montevideo, MN; and two grandchildren.  

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Merlin; brothers: Walt, George, Johnny, Bill, and Morris; and a sister, Marion Harvey.
