Wayne Robert Sulflow

June 18, 1962 ~ January 6, 2018 (age 55) 55 Years Old

Wayne Sulflow, Lake Lillian  died Saturday, January 6, 2018 at his home in Lake Lillian at the age of 55.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday,  January 13, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Burial will be at Trinity of Havelock Cemetery in rural Montevideo.  

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 4-6PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Wayne Robert Sulflow was born on June 18, 1962 in Montevideo to Robert and Gloria (Mueller) Sulflow.  He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Havelock.  Wayne attended school and graduated from Maynard High School in 1981.  On August 27, 1983 he was united in marriage to Julie Augeson at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  They had two children together, Zachary and Jamie.

Wayne spent 34 years in the Minnesota National Guard.  He retired as Sergeant Major in 2015. During his years with the National Guard, the family lived in Montevideo,  Ramsey, Comfrey, and then Lake Lillian, MN.  Wayne loved serving his country in the National Guard.   He served as a member of the Red Bulls in Operation Iraqi Freedom and worked on countless missions. He earned numerous awards including the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Action Badge.  Wayne was an accomplished custom woodworker. He enjoyed making and refinishing cabinets and old furniture.  He remodeled many of his houses and built his hobby farm where he currently resided.  He especially loved making special gifts for his wife and mother.  Wayne enjoyed his hobby farm where he raised goats, sheep, chickens, and miniature cows because that’s what his wife loved.  After retiring from the National Guard, Wayne took a full time job as the Public Works Director for the City of Lake Lillian.  He loved serving that community and built a raised community garden and a vegetable cart for them to share their produce.  He would bring his garden produce to town for the community to enjoy.  Wayne was a true servant helping everyone he met. 

Wayne was a devoted husband to Julie for 34 years.  She was the love of his life. He especially enjoyed grilling and cooking for her! They enjoyed raising their two children together, as well as, fishing and going to the North Shore.  Wayne was a proud father to Zach and Jamie.  He enjoyed sharing his passions of hunting, building things and raising animals with them.  Wayne adored his granddaughter Aaliyah and she adored her papa.       


Wayne is survived by his wife, Julie; his children: Zach (Jessica-fiancé) Sulflow, Willmar, and Jamie (Isaac) Jones, Paynesville, one grand daughter, Aaliyah, his mother, Gloria Sulflow, Maynard; siblings: Steven (Heather)  Sulflow, Maynard, Nancy (Denny) Ammermann, Montevideo, Barb (Brian) Zaeska, Pennock, Candice (Marvin) Jaenisch , Maynard, and Jana (Andy) Fjeldahl, Berthold, ND; sisters - in law: Cindy Sulflow,  Marcia (Charlie) Anderson, Barb Augeson, Gail (Wally) Mettling, Sharon (Randy) Christiansen, Janet (Neal) Luschen , Brenda Ellgren as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Sulflow; grandparents: Ervin and Grace Sulflow
and Leonard and Marcella Mueller; brother, Donald Sulflow; father and mother -in-law, Roger and Florence Augeson; and brother-in-law Scott Ellgren.
